Which husk is right for me?
A "Chou Chous" or "Bantal Busuks," is every child's first best friend.
- To the baby, its the koala that hugs you without ever feeling warm, has just the right amount of weight to give the sense of security needed to fall asleep and remains a constantly reassuring presence throughout the night.
- To the toddler, its the best friend you absolutely cannot leave home without. Having been with you through thick and thin, the chou chou has an all access pass to everywhere you go and is now fiercely protected from Mum or anybody who tries to wash it.
There are plenty of debates online to sway opinion between beansprout and buckwheat husks. Rather than attempt to convince you toward either by harping on the technicalities, please read my personal observations below and make your choice.
Here are some of the differences that I have noticed.
Beansprout Husk
|
Buckwheat Husk
|
|
Weight
|
Heavier | Lighter |
Durability
|
More likely to crush into powder over time. | More resistant to crushing. |
Smell
|
Carries an Earthy tone. | Odourless. |
Weight.
Beansprout husk is denser than buckwheat husk. This means that for exactly the same volume (size), a beansprout husk pillow is heftier to the touch than a buckwheat husk pillow. Therefore, the decision to be made is whether your darling prefers a bear hug (beansprout) or a light koala hug (buckwheat) to sleep.
Crushing.
Buckwheat Husk is more resistant to crushing compared to Beansprout Husk. Depending on how gentle your precious one is, a buckwheat husk pillow is more likely to stand the test of time against tosses, twists and jumps. After a period of time, you may find powder seeping out between the seams of the pillow insert from your beansprout husk pillow.
Earthy Tones.
Some people swear by it, some people hate it. Some mummies claim that the earthy undertones present in the Beansprout husk soothe and calm their little ones while others absolutely prefer the odorless Buckwheat variant.
Mummy knows best.
Mummies know exactly what their children like and should decide accordingly. Regardless of which husk infill you choose, you can be assured that both options undergo thorough sifting, the use of UV equipment for disinfection and sterilization, and are kept safe from the environment in vacuum packed bags until time to fill your lovely little pillows.
